Stanley G. Schultz, M.D. Student Travel Award in Global Health


Stanley G. Schultz, M.D., was appointed dean of UTHealth Medical School in June 2004, following a year of service as interim dean. A faculty member at the Medical School since 1979, Dr. Schultz was the former chair of the Department of Physiology and Cell Biology (1979–1995) and held the Fondren Family Chair in Cellular Signaling. He also served as associate dean for institutional advancement before his retirement in 2010. Schultz was a key contributor to the discovery, introduction, and widespread use of oral rehydration therapy. This treatment for severe fluid loss caused by diarrheal diseases is estimated to have saved more than 40 million lives in the past 35 years. He died Oct. 23, 2014. 

 

The purpose of the Stanley G. Schultz, M.D. Student Travel Award in Global Health is to support travel awards for students studying global health.
